The apartment I share with my co-guide, Tom, is in the hilltown of Montefollonico, which overlooks Montpulciano, in the heart of Vino Nobile country. Vino Nobile is made from the Prugnolo Gentile strain of the Sangiovese grape. It's an ancient grape, which local vintners say was first cultivated by the Etruscans, early inhabitants who taught the Romans how to cultivate vines and make wine.

In early May, the grapes begin to emerge, tiny and fragile, yearning for sunlight.

Riding through vineyards of Vino Nobile is, well, an experience to be treasured, especially when you know that at the end of the journey you're sure to share a glass of it's wine, among friends.
